Frank Cowan Company - October 18th, Farewell Creek Trail, Courtice

Today we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming the family of Major Christopher Mariner, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) who was lost during his service on October 8, 1999. Today we dedicated this touching tribute to Major Mariner at Tooley’s Mills Park in Courtice provided by his family. Christopher’s hand, alongside the initials and hand prints of his sister and brother can be seen in the impression.

Planted to honour this touching tribute is one of our Vimy oaks, grown from acorns off of the oaks planted after WWI. These incredible trees were originally planted by a soldier in north Scarborough, from acorns he’d brought back from the lines in Vimy.  You can read more about Major Christopher Mariner in our News Update.

Thank you to our sponsor Frank Cowan Company, for their continued support of our work. And thank you to the volunteers who made it out today to plant 300 in the chilly but sunny day.
