Captain Robert George Rogers
Information provided by Beverley Rogers, wife of Captain Rogers.
Robert (Bob) George Rogers served 28 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He enlisted on October 11th, 1946 in Kelowna, B.C. and retired on June 21st, 1974.
During his service, Bob was stationed in Lachine Quebec where he flew with 426 Transport Squadron. During the Korean War, between 1950 and 1952, the squadron transported supplies and troops to Japan in support of United Nations operations. On July 1950, a few days after the start of the war, 426 Squadron was detached to McChord Air Force Base in Washington state, where it came under the operational control of the Military Air Transport Service of the United States. A typical Korean Air Lift route for 426 Squadron airplanes was a physically and mentally demanding fifty-hour round-trip flight from McChord to Japan and back, with stops at Elmendorf Air Force Base (Alaska), Shemya (Aleutian Islands), Handed and Misawa Air Base (Japan).
Bob was later stationed at many bases, including twice over seas; France in 1952 and Germany in 1963. He was also stationed at multiple bases across Canada.
Bob started his service as a LAC and retired as Captain. He was commissioned from the ranks on April 1, 1967.
Bob retired in 1974 with a 1-year-old son who he called his retirement project.
Captain Rogers passed away in May 2017.
