Private Edward (Ted) Tubbs - A Family Lineage of Service

Teddy Tubbs WWII.jpeg

Information provided by Linda Thorn, niece of Ted Tubbs.

Ted Tubbs attended Jesse Ketchum School, in downtown Toronto where he excelled at all sports, especially baseball.

Having arrived in Canada from England, Ted's uncles were in the First World War, as were most of the fathers of Ted's friends, so it seemed natural for Ted and his own boyhood friends to volunteer in the Second World War as members of the Canadian Armed Forces, along with his own dad who, as a father of six at the time, volunteered for duty.

Ted was posted to France and never talked too much about the serious aspects of wartime, but had lots of stories of coincidences that he shared with his family for decades after the war, and with his friends as a lifetime member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Silverthorn Branch.

Ted died at 86 and had sadly attended funerals for all of his former army pals over the years. He was the last of a small group of neighbourhood boys who fought for our freedom today.

Ted would be adamant that he wasn't any hero, but they were just kids who must have been very scared at times. We owe them and all our brave Forces so much gratitude. Yes, he and his buddies all survived the war but that also means they carried those terrible experiences and memories for a lifetime.
