City of Toronto - Branching Out to Enhance the Urban Tree Canopy

In the fall of 2017, the city of Toronto provided funds to worthy NPO's that could help the city aspire to reach their goal of getting back to 40% tree canopy coverage. This funding was earmarked specifically to support plantings on what little available space there is in the city, that is not owned by the city. Having exclusive access to plant trees on Ministry of Transportation lands, The Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign was (and still is) uniquely positioned to help the city substantially.

Now, nearly three years on, the city of Toronto has continued to provide funding to the campaign on an annual basis and the result has been tens of thousands of new trees in Canada's most densely populated urban centre.

To date, we have planted over 18,000 trees in the City of Toronto (over 11,500 directly on the Highway of Heroes) and that number has the potential to double by the end of 2020.

Thank you to everyone at the city for their commitment to increasing the urban tree canopy and we look forward to our continued collaborations to keep our momentum going!
